Mavenir and Qualcomm to Deliver Energy Efficient, AI-Powered Massive MIMO Radio #MWC23


In collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Mavenir, a network software provider, today announced the release of its next-generation OpenBeamTM massive MIMO (mMIMO) 32TRX Active Antenna Unit (AAU), which integrates the Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN Platform. Using AI-based technologies, the solution boasts industry-leading energy efficiency levels while enhancing network performance to accelerate the shift to modern networks by assisting operators in streamlining and reducing the total cost of ownership of 5G deployments.

The next-generation OpenBeam mMIMO 32TRX AAU from Mavenir is a high-performance O-RAN based Radio Unit (O-RU) with 192 antenna elements and 320W of output power. In both RAN sharing and single operator scenarios, it is intended to satisfy the growing demand for highly effective and high-performance networks that can handle the exponential expansion in data traffic. The AAU is a crucial part of Mavenir’s commitment to assisting in reducing the carbon footprint of mobile networks, with an emphasis on energy efficiency features based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

With innovation in mind, Qualcomm created the QRU100 5G RAN Platform. It makes use of cutting-edge 5G mobile capabilities to enable cellular infrastructure that is feature-rich and combines strong performance with exceptional power efficiency.
